A239: Phone Photography Basics

Interested in photography but don't have a fancy camera? No worries, you don't need one! All you need is a device with a camera. This class focuses on smartphone photography, but also works for iPods, iPads, or any other type of device with a camera. We will learn about basics such as framing, lighting, and more!

Join us as we give a short but fun tour, showing how to program an Arduino microcontroller and interface the device with a circuit. We'll be working with real hardware, but no worries if you don't have a kit at home - you can follow along with a simulator!

S229: Life Interrupted: The Impacts of Concussion on the Brain

Ariana was a Division 1 athlete on the volleyball team at Penn, whose life has been severely altered after suffering multiple traumatic brain injuries while playing volleyball.

Grace studies neuroscience and is planning on working in the medical field.

This course will explore both the science behind impacts to the brain and discuss the short and long term effects of concussion on personality, sports, school, relationships, and other aspects of daily life.

X230: Presidential Simulation Game

Take on the role of a presidential campaign manager, and compete to become the 46th President of the United States. In this simulation type game, you split into two teams and allocate given money to certain states in order to win electoral college votes and become President. This entertaining game involves a lot of strategy, but is incredibly easy to learn and does NOT require any political knowledge in the slightest. Participants should expect to have a lot of fun while also improving their ability to work in a team, create and execute strategies, and learn a little about the current American political system.

The game of mafia was first created by Dmitry Davidoff in 1986. Since then, it has become one of the most popular social games, available in many forms all across the globe. Mafia is simple to grasp but hard to master, and involves both deception and problem solving. In this class, we will both be playing mafia and also going over some of the key strategic elements involved. Almost everyone enjoys mafia, and fun is guaranteed.
